Police Warn of Lethal Drugs Batch After Man Found Dead in Gateshead and Four Cardiac Arrests Reported
A man in his 40s has been found dead at a property in Harlow Green, Gateshead, sparking a police investigation into a potentially lethal batch of illegal drugs circulating in the area.
Northumbria Police confirmed the man was discovered on Friday, 21 June, and believe his death may be linked to four other recent cardiac arrests reported in the Gateshead area since Thursday.
“Protecting people from harm is our utmost priority,” said a police spokesperson. “We are doing all we can to warn people about a potential threat to their lives.”
What Happened in Harlow Green?
Police and emergency services were called to an address in Harlow Green on Friday where the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. While the official cause of death is yet to be confirmed, early investigations suggest it may be tied to a dangerous substance suspected to be circulating in local drug networks.
Four individuals have also suffered cardiac arrests in separate incidents across Gateshead within the same 48-hour period. Police believe these medical emergencies may also be linked to the same toxic drug batch.
Urgent Warning Issued Over Suspected Drugs Batch
Although Northumbria Police do not condone drug use, officers are urging users and their families to take extreme caution due to the potentially fatal nature of the substance.
“We suspect this particular batch could be lethal,” the spokesperson added. “If you are a drug user or know someone struggling with addiction, please be mindful of this message.”
The Force is also working with public health partners to issue a community-wide warning, encouraging anyone who experiences unusual symptoms after drug use to seek immediate medical attention.
