Major Emergency Response After Person Spotted in Water Near Roding Lane South, Ilford

Emergency services launched a major response after a person was reported in the water near Roding Lane South in Ilford, on the evening of Monday 19 May 2025.

The initial alert  at approximately 5:15pm, prompting the London Fire Brigade and other rescue services to mobilise to an area adjacent to Witney Avenue revealed one local resident .

Additional updates placed the incident near the Vista Drive footbridge, a location close to the River Roding, which runs through the borough.

Multiple Agencies Involved

All three  emergency services are  working a coordinated effort  to reach and extract the individual.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation of the individual’s condition or whether they were recovered safely.

The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade have been contacted for further information.

Location Details

The incident occurred near the green space along Roding Lane South, where a footpath and footbridge cross over the water near Vista Drive. This area is a popular walking route but has limited visibility along the waterway in some sections.

An investigation is likely to follow to determine how the person entered the water.
