Motorists are being urged to steer clear of making U-turns at the busy Seven Sisters junction leading into Broad Lane, after multiple drivers were hit with penalty charge notices (PCNs) for the prohibited manoeuvre.
A photo shared online of one such notice confirms that Transport for London (TfL) is actively enforcing the restriction. The PCN, citing contravention code 50u – “Performing a prohibited turn (no U-turn)” – reveals that the offence is captured on camera and stored on digital media. The penalty? A hefty £160, reduced to £80 if paid within 14 days.
The growing number of fines has sparked concern among drivers, many of whom claim the signage isn’t obvious or the traffic flow naturally leads to the turn. Nevertheless, TfL maintains that the junction is clearly marked and drivers are responsible for observing all posted restrictions.
A local resident who received a fine warned others on social media:
“Caution!!! People are starting to get tickets for making a U-turn on Seven Sisters to go into Broad Lane!! DO NOT MAKE A U-TURN THERE — YOU’LL GET A TICKET.”
If the fine isn’t paid or challenged within 28 days, the charge increases to £240 and may result in further legal action or involvement of Enforcement Agents.
Motorists travelling in the area are strongly advised to follow all traffic signage and seek legal routes to their destination to avoid falling foul of this enforcement zone.
Stay safe, stay informed — and avoid a costly mistake.
