On Sunday, November 6, 2022, at approximately 09:15, authorities received a distress call from a man claiming to have killed his girlfriend at their residence in Dukinfield. Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene and discovered an unconscious woman with severe head injuries. She was rushed to Salford Royal Hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries. The victim was later identified as 49-year-old Alexis Karran.
At the time of the incident, a 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. Following a mental health assessment, he was detained under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
After being deemed fit for interview in March 2023, Daniel Mitchell was subsequently charged with Alexis’ murder. However, during a court appearance on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Manchester Crown Court, Mitchell entered a guilty plea to the charge of manslaughter based on diminished responsibility.
In a heartfelt tribute to Alexis, her loved ones described her as a caring individual who showed kindness to everyone she encountered, whether they were friends or strangers. They spoke of her as the best role model for how to live life, with her brother constantly aspiring to match her example. Alexis will forever remain in their hearts, and they will always cherish her memory.
Senior Investigating Officer Duncan Thorpe, from Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Support Unit, expressed his deepest condolences to Alexis’ family and loved ones. He acknowledged the profound grief they have been experiencing and emphasised that no family, parent, sibling, or friend should have to endure such a horrific loss.
