Cops Seized Drugs And Knives From A Speeding Car After It Crashed

Newark and Sherwood Operation Reacher officers were on patrol in Newark when they spotted a car going over the limit.

Despite officers illuminating their blue lights, the vehicle failed to slow down and at one point clipped the side of a roundabout at speed.

The driver then lost control of the car seconds later and crashed straight into a fence outside a house in Byron Close, Newark.

Following the short chase, which happened at around 7.45pm on Sunday (26 February), officers detained the two people inside the vehicle.

A search of the car then led to the discovery of suspected Class A drugs, as well as two knives and a hammer.

Two men, aged 29 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

The suspects were also arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, failing to stop, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.

Sergeant Adam Wells, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to drive in a manner that puts others at risk on our roads.

“Thankfully, nobody was hurt as a direct result of this display of bad driving, although a car did end up colliding with a garden fence.

“Thanks to our Operation Reacher team, we were able to seize drugs and an array of offensive weapons from inside the vehicle when it did come to a stop.

“While we have arrested two suspects in connection with this incident, our inquiries are still ongoing to establish what happened, so we’d ask anyone with information to contact us.

“Information can be reported to the police by calling 101, quoting incident 599 of 26 February 2023, or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
