Car on its roof Closes Middle Road near Calbourne Mill on the Isle of Wight

A collision near Calbourne Mill has closed the road in both directions after car has come to rest on its roof this evening. Police have closed the road at the Chessel Potteries and have put in a hard road closure whilst other emergency services free and three those trapped. Fire crews and the rescue Tender from Newport and an appliance from Freshwater have been mobilised to the incident that happened just after 5.40pm on Sunday evening. The closure is likely to be in place for some time as the vehicle is blocking both carriageways. Bus services have bee diverted and timetables revised. The road has been closed in both directions between Chessel and Newbridge with cars diverting locally. UPDATE @ 17:55 – Southern Vectis’ bus route 27 at 17:45 is currently stuck at Westover Lodge Farm bus stop and is unable to proceed through Calbourne towards Newport. Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised two fire appliances, one from Freshwater and the other from Newport, although stood down en route, no action was taken. More to Follow
