Margate Bonfire Sparks Garden Fire Emergency – Three Fire Crews Rushed to Scene

A bonfire got out of control in Margate on Saturday night (10 May), spreading to nearby fencing and prompting a multi-engine response from Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

The blaze broke out in a garden on Mere Gate just before 9pm, leading to an emergency callout.

Three Fire Engines Battled the Flames

Crews arrived swiftly and used high-pressure hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. The incident was under control by 10:12pm, according to a fire service spokesperson.

“The fire is believed to have started from a bonfire and spread to fencing in the garden,” a spokesperson confirmed.

No Injuries Reported – Fire Safety Warning Issued

Fortunately, no one was injured, but the incident has prompted a renewed warning about bonfire safety.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service urged residents to follow key safety tips when burning outdoors:

• Keep bonfires away from fences, trees, bushes, and buildings

• Never leave a fire unattended

• Always have water or a hosepipe nearby

“A fire can spread faster than you think,” the service reminded the public. “Be responsible and always supervise any outdoor burning.”
