Birmingham Woman Murdered in Winson Green: Man Arrested After Irene Mbugua Found Dead

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman at a house in Winson Green, Birmingham.

West Midlands Police were called to a property on Markby Road shortly before 1am on Monday, 23 June, where the body of 46-year-old Irene Mbugua was discovered.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Irene had suffered serious head and facial injuries, resulting in her death. A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Police have confirmed that they are not seeking any other suspects in connection with the investigation.

Family Tribute

Irene’s family, now being supported by specialist officers, issued a heartfelt tribute:

“It’s so sad that you got snatched from us in such a cruel manner. We are so lost without you and we pray for Grace to face each day.

Mum, your beautiful smile and hearty laughter will be missed. Please just remind us on how to join the dots because we don’t have a map yet. Rest easy — you remain in our hearts forever.”

Police Statement

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said:

“This is a truly tragic case. Our thoughts remain with Irene’s family and friends. Enquiries are ongoing and we are doing everything possible to provide answers to her loved ones.”

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Irene’s death and have maintained a police presence at the scene this week for forensic examination.
