Police in Wallasey are appealing for information from the public after a distressing knifepoint robbery occurred on Friday, July 7. The incident took place at approximately 18.10 GMT when a 15-year-old boy, who was waiting to meet a friend on the grounds of Claremont Methodist Church, was approached by two males of a similar age.
According to the victim, one of the assailants was dressed in a black coat, while the other wore a grey coat and black trousers. Both suspects concealed their identities with black balaclavas. The individual in the grey coat then brandished a wooden-handled serrated knife, measuring around 10 inches, which had a small hole near the base of the handle.
In a state of fear, the victim quickly distanced himself from the assailants. The perpetrators fled the scene with an electric bike, specifically described as a navy blue Eleglide electric pedal cycle. Thankfully, the victim did not sustain any physical injuries but was left severely shaken by the traumatic encounter.
Detective Inspector Emma Kerrigan expressed her deep concern over the incident, stating, “This appalling incident left the boy incredibly frightened. We’re doing all we can to identify those responsible, but your help could be vital.” She urged anyone who was in the vicinity of the Methodist church on Friday evening and observed youths matching the offenders’ description or noticed any suspicious activities to come forward with information.
Additionally, the authorities are seeking the assistance of anyone who may have come across the stolen navy blue Eleglide electric bike since the robbery. Detective Inspector Kerrigan made a special appeal to parents who recognize the description of the knife and suspect it may have been taken without their knowledge on Friday, encouraging them to do the right thing and report any relevant details.
The police are particularly interested in receiving any available CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, eyewitness accounts, or other pertinent information that could aid in their investigation.
