The armed response unit and response officers were quickly on the scene in Andover Road, Bestwood, after receiving a report of a man in possession of a gun shortly after 4pm yesterday (Tuesday 18 July).

The teams detained a suspect and seized the suspected firearm.

Following an inspection of the firearm, officers concluded it was in fact a BB gun.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He has since been bailed with conditions while inquiries into what happened continue.

Sergeant Megan Barnard, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Whenever we get any reports of suspected firearms being brandished or used, we will always act quickly, as we showed here, where we were on scene within a matter of minutes and had one man in custody.

“We know the concern an incident like this can cause in the local communities but I want to reassure you that this was an isolated incident, and no one was injured.

“We’re still investigating what happened here so I would ask anyone who was driving past or saw anything to get in touch with us or make an anonymous report.”

If you were in the area at the time or have any CCTV footage or any information call 101, quoting incident number 471 of 18 July 2023, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
