In a harrowing incident that unfolded on Ilminster Avenue in Knowle West, South Bristol, a murder investigation has been launched following the deaths of two teenagers. The victims, aged 15 and 16, were attacked by a group of individuals around 11.20pm on Saturday, January 27.

A police response saw officers arriving at the scene within minutes of the initial call. Despite their efforts to administer first aid, the victims, who had sustained stab wounds, succumbed to their injuries in the early hours of Sunday, January 28. They were transported to Southmead Hospital and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The Major Crime Investigation Team is spearheading the inquiry, with two arrests already made – a 44-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, both in police custody. A vehicle linked to the incident has been seized.

Formal identification of the victims is pending, and forensic post-mortem examinations are scheduled. Families of the deceased will receive support from specialist family liaison officers during this difficult time.

Bristol Commander Supt Mark Runacres expressed the shock and tragedy surrounding the incident, emphasizing the young age of the victims. A cordon has been established on Ilminster Avenue between Newquay Road and Tavistock Road, where police activities, including forensic searches and enquiries, are ongoing.

House-to-house investigations, collection of CCTV footage, and interviews with witnesses, including passengers on a bus in the vicinity, form integral parts of the ongoing probe. A mobile police station near the scene aims to address concerns from the community.

Supt Runacres urged restraint in online discussions, cautioning against sharing information or images that could prejudice future legal proceedings. He stressed the potential impact on the families and reminded the public of the serious consequences of knife crime.
