Midmore Brother Found Guilty in Court
Billy Midmore has been found Guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, in relation to acid attack on Carla Whitlock in Southampton this afternoon. Midmore has been found guilty of an acid attack which left the mother of six blind in one eye. Carla Whitlock was attacked with a drain cleaner containing sulphuric acid in Southampton on 18 September 2015. The jury of seven men and five women took just over 12 hours to come to their verdict of finding him guilty. Brother Geoffrey Midmore, aged 27, of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to the offence of causing Grievous Bodily Harm with intent at Southampton Crown Court on November 16, 2015. Both men will be sentenced at a later date yet to be confirmed. Billy and his brother, Geoffrey Midmore, worked jointly to carry out this horrific attack against their victim, Carla Whitlock, on Friday, September 18, 2015. After the attack, Geoffrey and Billy went on the run, in the full knowledge that we would be looking for them. Following an intensive nationwide manhunt, working together with Kent Police, they were found hiding at an address in Gillingham, Kent. Detective Chief Inspector David Brown from the Western Investigations Team said: “There was an excellent response from members of staff and customers from a local restaurant and passers-by. They rushed to Carla’s side and helped by giving us accounts of what they saw and heard. I would like to extend my gratitude to them all for their humanity, compassion and their continued support. “There has been a huge amount of ongoing work with partner agencies since the day of the incident, both supporting the investigation and the victim. “The injuries sustained by Carla as a result of this attack are horrific and will stay with her for the rest of her life. Carla will now have to rebuild her life and provisions are in place from the wider health and social support networks to help her do that, and we wish her the very best. “I wish to praise and commend the investigation teams within Hampshire Constabulary who all worked tirelessly to trace the Midmore brothers, arrest them and bring them to justice at the law courts today. “I would like to close by saying that these types of incidents are extremely rare in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and to provide our assurance that we will continue to work to ensure that our county remains a safe place to live, work and visit.” The pair will be sentenced later.
