A police officer from Leicestershire has sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a dog believed to be an XL Bully breed while on duty.

The incident unfolded at approximately 4.40pm on Thursday when two officers attended an address in Ibstock. They were responding to a call in search of a man wanted by the police when the dog attack occurred. During the encounter, one of the officers was bitten on his upper leg, resulting in serious injuries.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, and the injured officer was rushed to the hospital. He is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries. The other officer also suffered a minor cut to his finger during the incident.

The dog responsible for the attack was promptly seized from the property and placed in secure kennels. Authorities have identified the breed as an XL Bully. Additionally, a second dog, described as a pit bull-type breed, was also removed from the premises and is now being housed in kennels.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police stated, “Inquiries are ongoing into the incident, and at this time, there have been no arrests.

The attack occurred at an address located on Lewis Close in Ibstock, near Coalville. Law enforcement authorities are actively investigating the incident to gather further details.

The safety and welfare of both the injured officer and the dogs involved remain a top priority for the police force as they continue to look into this distressing incident.
