The man who tragically lost his life in an incident near Forfar has been identified as John Gillan from Arbroath. The 56-year-old driver passed away following a one-vehicle crash in which a tree struck his van on the B9127 at Whigstreet.
Police were alerted to the incident at around 17.05 BST on Thursday, 19 October 2023. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, Gillan was pronounced dead at the site.
Authorities have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal for further investigation.
Gillan’s family has released a statement through Police Scotland expressing their devastation at the loss of their beloved John and the circumstances surrounding his untimely passing. They described him as a loving husband to Gaynor, a caring father to Marc, a cherished father-in-law to Natasha, and a doting grandad to Reygan and Finley. Gillan was also a loving son to John and Moira, a dear brother to Wendy, and a beloved uncle, son-in-law, and brother-in-law. His family expressed that he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
During this indescribably difficult time, the family extended their gratitude to their relatives and friends for their unwavering support. They also requested privacy as they mourn the loss of John.
