In anticipation of severe weather conditions, six Scottish football games have been called off ahead of schedule this weekend. A new red weather warning is set to be enforced in certain parts of Scotland on Saturday, prompting the cancellations.
The cancelled games, across various divisions, are as follows:
Cinch Premiership:
– Aberdeen v Dundee
– St Johnstone v Motherwell
Cinch Championship:
– Arbroath v Raith Rovers
Cinch League 1:
– Cove Rangers v Montrose
Cinch League 2:
– Elgin City v Forfar Athletic
– Stenhousemuir v Peterhead
The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) confirmed that the decision was made following extensive discussions with clubs, Police Scotland, and relevant authorities. Calum Beattie, the SPFL’s chief operating officer, emphasised that the severe weather conditions, particularly in the North East, necessitated the cancellations.
“We always take the decision to postpone matches very seriously. However, after consulting with the emergency services, it became clear that this was the correct course of action,” stated Beattie.
