Authorities investigating a string of more than 10 sexual assaults on the bus network have released images of a man they are seeking to identify and speak with. The offences, which have occurred between February 2022 and September 2023, primarily took place in the afternoons and evenings on buses operating in the Ealing, Hammersmith, Westminster, and Hounslow areas.
In many of the incidents, either the suspect or the victim boarded the bus at Westfield Shepherds Bush, Ealing Broadway, or Acton High Street. The perpetrator specifically targets Muslim women, seating himself next to them on the bus and engaging in inappropriate physical contact. Notably, he does not engage in verbal communication with the victims.
Detective Sergeant Matthew Brown, from the Metropolitan Police’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, acknowledged the concerns raised by the community and social media posts regarding these incidents. He assured the public that authorities are diligently working to identify and locate the suspect, and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Although the released images show the suspect with his face covered, investigators hope that individuals who recognise his clothing or other distinguishing features will be able to assist in the identification process. Detective Sergeant Brown also encouraged potential victims who have not yet spoken to the police to come forward, emphasising the importance of ensuring their well-being and providing necessary support.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is urged to contact the police at 101 or submit information via X @MetCC, quoting reference CAD 8412/21Sep. Individuals who wish to remain anonymous can reach out to the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
