Merseyside Police are appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision that occurred in Newton-Le-Willows yesterday, Tuesday 10 October. The incident involved an electric scooter and a car and has left the rider of the scooter in a critical condition.
According to reports, the collision took place just before 15.00 at the junction of Market Street and Sankey Street. A red Fiat car and an electric scooter were involved in the incident. The rider of the electric scooter, a 49-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital under critical condition.
The driver of the Fiat, a 41-year-old woman, remained uninjured and stopped at the scene. She is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation into the collision.
Sergeant Simon Duffy, the Lead Investigating Officer for the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed concern about the severity of the rider’s injuries. He stated, “The rider of the electric scooter is currently in a critical condition following the collision. His next-of-kin has been located, and we are providing support to the family during this difficult time.”
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to the police to come forward with any relevant information. Additionally, individuals who were driving in the vicinity of Market Street and Sankey Street at the time of the incident and may have captured the collision on dash-cam footage or other means are also requested to get in touch with the police.
