A man has been charged with murder following the death of another man in Sutton Heath.

At around 21.00 BST on October 8, the police received reports of a stabbing outside a property on Ipswich Avenue. Within 15 minutes, officers arrived at the scene, accompanied by ambulance crews. The severity of the situation prompted the assistance of an air ambulance and a volunteer critical care paramedic from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service. Despite the combined efforts of the police and medical personnel, the victim, a 37-year-old man, tragically lost his life at the scene.

A post-mortem examination conducted by the Home Office on October 9 concluded that the cause of death was stab wounds to the heart and left lung. Formal identification procedures for the deceased are still pending.

Shortly after the incident, a 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene around 21.15 BST and taken to the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. The suspect, identified as Jay Cotterill from Ipswich Avenue in Sutton Heath, has since been charged with murder. In addition, Cotterill faces an assault charge causing actual bodily harm in connection with an assault on a woman also reported to have occurred during the incident.

Cotterill remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today

They are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who were driving along Ipswich Avenue on Sunday night either prior to or just after 21.00 BST and may have dashcam footage that could be helpful to the investigation.
