A man has been charged following a serious road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre on Saturday 7 October. Connor Mears, 28, of no fixed abode, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drugs, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and using a vehicle without insurance. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court on Monday 9 October.

Two other individuals, a 53-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man from Southport, who were arrested in connection with the incident, have been released pending further enquiries.

The collision occurred on the Strand (Southbound) at 01:10 on 7 October and involved a white Audi TT, a grey Toyota Auris, and a 44-year-old male pedestrian who was on the footpath. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital. He remains in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer from the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed condolences to the man’s family and thanked the local community for their assistance in the investigation. He urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, as it could be vital to the investigation.
