Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed his commitment to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at deescalating the conflict. He stressed that a two-state solution is the only path towards achieving lasting peace in the region. Erdogan further emphasised the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, addressing one of the core issues in the Middle East.
Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hecht, spokesperson for Israel’s military, labeled the Hamas attacks as Israel’s equivalent to the 9/11 tragedy and accused Hamas of seeking the annihilation of the Israeli state. He condemned the militants for deliberately targeting innocent civilians, including grandmothers, children, and babies.
Tragically, a French citizen lost their life as a result of the attacks in Israel, according to a spokesperson for the French foreign ministry. The United States is also actively investigating reports suggesting that several Americans may have been killed or taken hostage. Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed that they are working diligently to verify these reports and gather accurate information.
