In a dramatic turn of events, ten individuals found themselves airlifted from their vehicles as landslides forced the closure of two major roads in Argyll and Bute, Scotland.
The A83 and A815 were paralysed by landslides, leaving several vehicles stranded. Responding to the emergency, an HM Coastguard helicopter was deployed to airlift the occupants to safety. Fortunately, police report that there have been no injuries among those affected by the landslides.
As recovery efforts are underway, both the A83 and A815 remain closed, and authorities are advising drivers to steer clear of the area. The disruption caused by the landslides has prompted a significant response to ensure the safety of the public.
The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has expressed “quite significant concerns” for communities on the west coast. Vincent Fitzsimmons, a SEPA spokesman, emphasised the gravity of the situation, stating, “This is not just a normal wet autumn day. We are concerned about the possibility of significant flooding.”
With the region facing more than typical autumn rainfall, authorities are closely monitoring the potential for further flooding, urging residents to stay vigilant and prepared.
