Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a tragic incident in Wandsworth where a man lost his life in a shooting on Shuttleworth Road, SW11. Police responded to reports of gunshots at around 9.50pm on Thursday, 5 October.
Upon arrival, officers and the London Ambulance Service discovered a man, believed to be in his 20s, injured at the scene. Despite immediate emergency first aid, the man sadly succumbed to his injuries, and his next of kin have been informed, receiving support from specialist officers.
Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will be conducted in due course. Detective Chief Inspector Neil John from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and friends, acknowledging the tragic loss.
“This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life whilst standing on a street in Battersea. Our thoughts are with his family and friends as they continue to struggle with this terrible news,” said Detective Chief Inspector Neil John.
Detective Chief Superintendent Clair Kelland, from the South West BCU covering Wandsworth, assured the local community of the police’s commitment to finding those responsible. There will be an increased police presence in the area, and residents are encouraged to speak with officers and share any information or concerns.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing. Detective Chief Inspector Neil John urged anyone in the area who witnessed the events or captured footage on phones or doorbell cameras to contact the police immediately.
