The family of Jessica Baker, the 15-year-old who tragically lost her life in a road traffic collision on the M53 in Wirral, has issued a heartfelt tribute. Jessica died following an incident where a bus struck a reservation near Junction 5, resulting in an overturn.
In their tribute, Jessica’s family described her as a warm-hearted, wonderful daughter, granddaughter, and niece. She was a devoted sister, loyal friend, and a talented climber associated with the Boardroom Climbing Centre Academy. Jessica helped coach younger climbers and competed nationally, inspiring others with her passion for climbing. Starting Year 11 at West Kirby Grammar School, Jessica focused not only on academics but also represented the school in various sports events.
The family expressed the immense void Jessica’s untimely death has created in their lives and highlighted the impact she had on both the school and the climbing community across the country.
Mr. Simeon Clarke, the headteacher of West Kirby Grammar School, also released a statement expressing the difficulty in finding words to describe the tragic loss of Jessica. Describing her as kind and empathetic, Mr. Clarke emphasised Jessica’s dedication as a friend and her exemplary qualities as a student. She was known for her unassuming nature, politeness, and commitment to rock climbing, where she represented Wales in national competitions.
As the school returns to regular activities, they aim to work closely with Jessica’s family and friends to celebrate her life appropriately. The headteacher expressed pride in the way students and the school community responded to the tragic events, highlighting the ongoing support provided to staff and students.
