Greater Manchester Police have initiated a murder investigation following the death of a 43-year-old woman in Manchester on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
Responding to concerns for the woman’s welfare at an address in Hyde Road around 11:20 BST, officers and emergency services made efforts to save her life. Unfortunately, despite their best endeavours, the woman succumbed to the tragic incident.
A 52-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder and is currently undergoing questioning. In adherence to standard procedure and considering prior contact, the case has been referred to the force’s Professional Standards Branch for assessment.
Detective Superintendent Helen Critchley, leading Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team, conveyed her deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends. Specialist officers are providing support as the investigation enters its early stages.
As investigators piece together the details of the incident, a designated scene remains in place. Detective Superintendent Critchley reassured the community, stating, “We believe that this was an isolated incident.” She urged anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward, emphasising its potential significance to the ongoing investigation.
