The teenage boy, accused of the murder of Lorna Woodnutt on Saturday night, appeared before Tullamore District Court.
Detective Sergeant Caroline Lyng provided evidence of arrest, charge, and caution, revealing the accused’s silence during the process. Dressed in dark clothing, the boy did not seek bail, leading Judge Andrew Cody to remand him to Oberstown Child Detention Campus. The next court appearance is scheduled for October 4 via video link at 10:15.
Judge Cody expressed concerns about a circulating video linked to the incident, emphasising the criminality of sharing it. The graphic nature of the video raises alarms about potential harm, especially to children.
A post-mortem examination conducted by State Pathologist Dr. Heidi Okkers at Midlands Regional Hospital took place on Saturday
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar extended condolences and solidarity to the victim’s family and the local community, acknowledging the profound impact of this tragic event.
