The search for 17-year-old Russel Burrdett-Deakin, who has been missing from his home near Sutton Road, in Kent continues with renewed urgency. Officers are appealing to residents to assist in the search by checking their properties, including gardens and outbuildings, while visitors to public spaces like Mote Park and Whatman Park are also urged to be vigilant.*
Russel Burrdett-Deakin was reported missing from his home in Maidstone on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at approximately 18.30 BST Since that time, police have been conducting extensive searches of the local area, including locations near the River Medway, the town’s parks, footpaths, and public transport systems. However, Russel’s whereabouts remain unknown.
Detective Chief Inspector Julia Pexton, leading the investigation, expressed the ongoing efforts to locate Russel and called upon the community for support “We are now appealing to Maidstone residents to also help where possible. It is possible Russel is taking refuge in someone’s garden or outbuilding, so please just take a few minutes to make some checks.”
Russel is described as having a slim build and, at the time he was last seen, had dark hair with blue colourings. He was wearing red or maroon bottoms, a red Champion hooded top, and carrying a black Under Armour rucksack. Detectives are advising the public to remain alert, as Russel’s appearance may have changed since his disappearance. He may appear scruffy, and there is a possibility that he has dyed his hair black.
DCI Pexton also made a direct appeal to the community, asking for anyone with information to come forward. “We are asking the likes of dog walkers and runners to please pay a bit of extra attention when out and about. Russel’s appearance may have altered since he was reported missing. His appearance may be scruffy, and we believe it is also possible that he may have dyed his hair black. Please report any sightings, even if you think there is only a small chance you may have seen Russel.”
Since Russel’s disappearance, the investigation is intensifying, and residents are asked to reflect on their whereabouts on the evening of Wednesday, September 6. If anyone recalls being in or around the Sutton Road and Park Wood areas and saw someone matching Russel’s description or noticed anyone who appeared distressed, they are urged to come forward. Additionally, residents are encouraged to review their home security systems, including doorbell cameras, for any potential footage or clues.
Finally, DCI Pexton had a heartfelt message for Russel: “If Russel is reading this, I’d like to again reassure him he is not in any trouble. There are a lot of people really worried about him, and we just want to know he is safe. He can speak to us at any time or if he prefers, can contact a friend or others who are here to help, such as volunteers at the Missing People charity. They are available every day, between 09.00 and 23.00 by calling 116 000.”
