The Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team has initiated a murder investigation in the wake of a harrowing incident that occurred on Pear Avenue in Bury. This grim turn of events unfolded on Saturday, September 16, and has since led to two arrests on suspicion of murder.
Initially, two individuals were taken into custody on suspicion of Section 18 assault, but their status has since been changed to being held on suspicion of murder. Both individuals remain in custody, undergoing questioning as the investigation progresses.
The tragic series of events began on the evening of Saturday, September 16, when police and the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) were alerted to an incident at approximately 21.30 BST Authorities swiftly arrived at the scene, where a 55-year-old woman was discovered unconscious, bearing severe injuries. She was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention. Regrettably, despite all efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away in the hospital on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Davis expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “This was a horrific, isolated attack that was carried out on a vulnerable 55-year-old, and we have a number of lines of enquiry that we are currently following. We have two in custody, but our investigation is still very much ongoing. We have increased, highly visible patrols in the community, and they are there to speak to members of the community, to answer questions they may have.”
Authorities are now reaching out to the community, urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Pear Avenue in Bury between 19.00. and 21.30. on the evening of September 16, 2023, to come forward if they possess any dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage of the area that could aid the investigation.
