In the early hours of Tuesday, tragedy struck on the M62 motorway as Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit responded to a harrowing incident. A car collided with a pedestrian, resulting in the closure of the M62 in both directions.
At approximately 00.15 BST, authorities received reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the M62 motorway. Emergency services promptly rushed to the scene to provide assistance, but unfortunately, an adult male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, a 25-year-old man, remained at the collision site and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is currently in police custody and will undergo further questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
As the investigation unfolds, the M62 motorway between Eccles and Birchwood has been closed in both directions. This closure is expected to persist throughout the morning as officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit work diligently to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Authorities have also implemented alternative diversion routes for commuters to navigate around the closed section of the M62. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the affected area and follow the designated diversions to ensure smooth traffic flow while the investigation continues.
