Extreme E, the pioneering racing series with a focus on environmental sustainability and gender equality, has renewed its broadcast partnership with ITV, the UK’s largest commercial broadcaster, in a multi-year contract. This collaboration ensures that fans of the championship in the UK can continue to enjoy free-to-air live coverage of the racing action across multiple ITV channels.
As part of this agreement, viewers in the UK can watch Extreme E races live on ITV1, ITV4, and ITVX. Additionally, the programming will be available for on-demand viewing on ITVX, allowing fans to catch up on the excitement of each race.
ITV has been a proud partner of Extreme E since the series’ inception in 2021. In 2022 and 2023, ITV became the exclusive UK terrestrial broadcaster for live coverage, highlighting the broadcaster’s dedication to the championship.
This extended partnership between Extreme E and ITV goes beyond sports broadcasting, as both entities share a commitment to sustainability initiatives. ITV has pledged to obtain albert sustainable certification for all its produced and commissioned programs, ensuring that its content has a significant impact on audiences while minimising its environmental footprint. ITV also actively supports the Climate Content Pledge, striving to increase the amount of content on-screen that promotes the transition to a more sustainable world.
Ali Russell, Managing Director at Extreme E, expressed his delight about the partnership extension, stating, “This gives us the platform to showcase our pioneering, gender-equal championship – a world-first for motorsport – to a wide, engaged audience, and also raise awareness of the climate crisis and the need for sustainable solutions to climate change.”
Niall Sloane, ITV Director of Sport, emphasised the shared goals of both organisations, saying, “Both ITV and Extreme E share the same commitment to driving awareness of the effects of climate change and promoting positive action. We are also proud to be able to provide a platform for the world’s first gender-equal motorsport.”
This renewed partnership solidifies Extreme E’s place within ITV Sport’s portfolio of top-tier events, alongside prestigious competitions such as the FIFA World Cup, the FA Cup, Six Nations rugby, and the Tour de France.
Jenson Button, Team Owner of JBXE, celebrated the news, noting that “The UK has such an appetite for motorsport and it is fantastic that such a passionate audience has taken to Extreme E.”
Catie Munnings of Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E expressed her excitement, saying, “I have no doubts that alongside the epic racing, we will be able to continue shining a light on the importance of gender equality and sustainability initiatives, which make our championship so unique.”
With this agreement in place, Extreme E’s thrilling racing action and commitment to sustainable motorsport will continue to captivate audiences in the UK through ITV’s extensive broadcasting network.
Extreme E’s Season 3 finale, the Copper X Prix in Antofagasta, Chile (2-3 December), will be broadcast live on ITV and STV in the UK, where the 2023 champions will be crowned.
