Amidst the allegations of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse against Russell Brand, an accuser, known as “Alice,” has come forward, claiming that a BBC car transported her from school to the star’s residence when she was just 16 years old.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, Alice revealed the traumatic impact of her alleged abusive relationship with Brand, stating that it left her feeling “cheap and dirtied.” She expressed her dissatisfaction with Brand’s denial of the accusations, deeming it “insulting.” She rejected the notion of a mainstream media conspiracy, highlighting that Brand is firmly within the mainstream media landscape.
Alice raised questions about the BBC’s handling of the situation during their relationship in 2006, asserting that more should have been done at the time, given Brand’s well-known record of engaging in inappropriate on-air activities and conversations. She further asserted that Brand was not held to the same standards as other BBC presenters or newsreaders, and there were exceptions and allowances made for him that warrant scrutiny.
The BBC has confirmed that it is “urgently looking into the issues raised” in response to these allegations.
The woman claimed that she met Brand when he was 30 years old, during his tenure as a presenter on Radio 2. Describing her alleged abusive relationship, she recounted feeling “used up,” “cheap,” and “dirtied” by the experience.
Alice’s allegations are part of a broader investigation by The Times, The Sunday Times, and Channel 4 Dispatches, which has seen four women come forward with allegations of sexual assault by Russell Brand between 2006 and 2013. These allegations have prompted the BBC to review Brand’s association with the broadcaster during that period.
Brand, 48, vehemently denies all of the allegations against him, claiming that all of his relationships have been consensual.
