Detectives conducting an investigation into a serious assault, which took place in the Old Shore Road area of Newtownards late on Saturday, September 16 have made an arrest in connection with the incident.
According to Detective Sergeant Westbury, the assault occurred at approximately 23.45 when a man in his 40s was intentionally struck by a vehicle, and the driver fled the scene. The victim was subsequently transported to the hospital to receive treatment for leg injuries, which, while serious, are not believed to be life-threatening.
Law enforcement authorities swiftly apprehended a 32-year-old male shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder and various driving offences. The individual remains in police custody as the investigation unfolds.
Detective Sergeant Westbury affirmed, “Enquiries are ongoing,” and appealed to anyone who may have information regarding the incident or who might have witnessed a silver van in the vicinity between 23.30 and 23.45 to come forward. He further urged potential witnesses to share relevant dashcam, mobile phone, or other footage that could assist with the investigation.
