Escaped murderer Danelo Cavalcante, who rattled the community after breaking out of prison on August 31, has finally been apprehended after a grueling two-week manhunt. Authorities announced on Wednesday morning that the 34-year-old convict was taken back into custody, much to the relief of the local residents.
Pennsylvania State Police confirmed the capture and revealed they would be holding a press conference at 9 a.m. to provide further details on the operation. The successful capture of Cavalcante marked a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice.
Surveillance footage from Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township revealed the audacious escape plan executed by Cavalcante. The video showed him stretching himself between two parallel walls to reach the prison roof. Astonishingly, he managed to evade the watchtower guard, whose negligence in detecting the escape has cost him his job. The 18-year veteran guard, who remains unidentified, was found to have violated prison policy by possessing a cell phone in the tower.
Cavalcante, a mere 5-feet-2-inches tall and weighing 120 pounds, was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the first-degree murder of his 33-year-old former girlfriend. This brutal act of fatally stabbing her had led to his conviction on August 16. Additionally, he also faces charges in his native country of Brazil in relation to a murder that occurred in 2017.
Despite Cavalcante’s attempts to elude capture, law enforcement officials remained resolute in their pursuit and expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and continued support. The search took authorities through densely wooded areas, which proved to be a challenging impediment for both the fugitive and those chasing him.
Throughout the manhunt, surveillance cameras frequently caught glimpses of Cavalcante within the search perimeter. These sightings provided valuable leads and fuelled hopes of his eventual recapture.
