In a shocking incident in Birmingham, an 11-year-old girl and two men were injured by an American XL bully crossbreed, leading to the arrest of a 60-year-old man. West Midlands Police have taken the man into custody on suspicion of possessing a dangerously out-of-control dog.
According to a statement issued by the police force, “A 60-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog dangerously out of control. He has been bailed with conditions while enquiries continue. The dog currently remains in secure kennels.”
The incident, which took place in the Bordesley Green area of Birmingham, has raised concerns about the safety of such dogs. Home Secretary Suella Braverman announced on Sunday that she is seeking “urgent advice” regarding the possibility of banning American XL bully dogs, following the disturbing footage of the dog attack circulating on social media, particularly TikTok.
West Midlands Police provided details of the incident, stating that the dog, described as a crossbreed bully XL/Staffordshire bull terrier puppy, had broken free from its collar and attacked an 11-year-old girl, causing serious injuries to her shoulder and forearms. The young girl received medical treatment in the hospital and is now recovering at home.
The chaos didn’t stop there, as the dog broke free from its owner a second time, chasing a 20-year-old man across a garage forecourt. This young man sustained injuries to his shoulder and forearm, in addition to cuts and bruises from being dragged across the floor. Both men injured during the attack were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
