An investigation is underway following a series of malicious emails that targeted several schools in the North West region, according to local authorities. The alarming incident prompted schools to implement safety measures, causing disruption and concern among parents and students.
The initial report emerged from Lache Primary School in Chester when it notified parents through a Facebook post that they would be unable to pick up their children due to an unsettling email sent to multiple schools across Cheshire, Liverpool, and Manchester. The school emphasised that the measure was simply precautionary and there was no immediate threat on the premises. Lache Primary School decided to lock down the facility temporarily, prioritising the safety of staff and students.
Responding to the incident, a spokesperson for Lache Primary School stated, “We have locked down the school to ensure that everyone is safe, which they are.” The school later updated its advisory, affirming that the email was likely a malicious hoax, and assured parents that children would be allowed to leave the premises by year group.
Blacon High School, also located in Chester, took similar precautions in response to the email. Although additional security measures were implemented, the school clarified that it was not under lockdown as a result of the incident. A statement from Blacon High School provided reassurance to concerned parents.
Chester Constabulary confirmed its awareness of the threatening emails sent to several schools. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and have been actively attending the affected educational institutions to provide support and reassurance to students, staff, and parents.
Detective Chief Inspector Justin Hancock assured parents that the emails were believed to be malicious in nature, adding that authorities were working diligently to identify the responsible individual. “We are doing everything we can to locate the person responsible for these emails,” stated Detective Chief Inspector Hancock. The police are urging parents to remain calm and vigilant while they continue their investigation.
