Detectives in Ayrshire have launched an appeal for information after a distressing sexual assault incident occurred in Stevenston. The incident unfolded around 5.45am on Saturday, September 9, 2023.
According to authorities, a man approached a woman while she was on the walkway near Millhill Road, locally known as Mill Dam, and attempted to engage her in conversation before sexually assaulting her. Following the assault, the assailant fled in the direction of Stevenston Cross.
The suspect is described as a white male aged between 20 and 30, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a skinny build and short dark hair. He was seen wearing a grey jogger-style tracksuit and white trainers at the time of the incident.
Local law enforcement officers are urgently seeking any information that could assist in identifying the individual responsible for this incident. Additionally, they are requesting any CCTV footage or dashcam recordings from the area around the time of the assault.
Detective Sergeant Andrea Templeton, from Saltcoats CID, expressed the urgency of the situation, saying, “It’s vital we trace the person responsible for this incident, which has left the woman extremely shaken by what happened. Officers are carrying out regular patrols of the area and I’d like to reassure the public everything possible is being done.”
Templeton further appealed to anyone who was in the Mill Dam area around the time of the assault to come forward with any relevant information. She also encouraged local residents with CCTV or doorbell footage and drivers with dashcams to review their recordings and report anything significant to the authorities.
The incident has understandably caused distress in the community, and law enforcement is determined to bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure the safety of residents.
