Manchester United has taken the decision to grant winger Antony a leave of absence following allegations of abuse made by three women in Brazil. The player had previously been dropped from the Brazil squad after the initial accusations by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin.
Since then, two other women have come forward to allege assault by Antony. In response to these serious allegations, Manchester United released a statement acknowledging the accusations against the player. The club emphasised its condemnation of violence and abuse while recognising the importance of safeguarding all parties involved.
Antony himself expressed his intention to cooperate fully with the authorities, stating, “I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me. This was a mutual decision to avoid distraction to my teammates and unnecessary controversy for the club. I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully cooperate with the police to help them reach the truth. I look forward to returning to play as soon as possible.”
The allegations have prompted investigations by the Brazilian authorities and intensified scrutiny of the case. The situation remains under review as both the club and relevant authorities work to determine the facts surrounding these allegations.
