In a significant turn of events, Dean Woods, a figure central to the mysterious disappearance of Lisa Brown in 2015, has been apprehended in Germany, over ten months after he absconded from jail. This development has brought fresh hope to the ongoing search for Lisa, whose vanishing has remained a painful and unresolved chapter for her family.
Lisa Brown, a Scotland native, was 32 years old when she vanished without a trace on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from her residence in Guadiaro, San Roque, Spain, where she lived with her eight-year-old son. Her abrupt disappearance raised immediate concerns, particularly when she failed to pick her son up from school four days later.
When Spanish authorities entered Lisa’s apartment, they discovered evidence suggesting a violent incident had occurred before her disappearance, deepening the mystery surrounding her whereabouts.
The investigation initially focused on Simon Corner, also known as Dean Woods, Lisa’s former boyfriend and a luxury yacht dealer. Corner was interviewed in connection with her disappearance but soon fled the country. He was subsequently arrested in Denmark in April 2016 and extradited to Spain, where he was imprisoned.
However, the case took a perplexing turn when, in late 2017, Woods violated his bail conditions, leading to the issuance of a European Arrest Warrant. He was apprehended again at Heathrow Airport, raising hopes of his extradition to Spain to face charges related to Lisa’s disappearance.
Disappointingly, the case against him was later archived by a judge due to insufficient evidence, and no charges were filed for his six months on the run. The family’s hopes were momentarily rekindled in October 2018 when it was announced that the case against Woods would be reopened. However, they were subsequently informed that he would not face prosecution in connection with Lisa’s disappearance.
Woods, however, faced legal consequences of a different nature. He was found guilty of involvement in a €10 million drug trafficking ring and sentenced to 12 years in prison. During his sentence, he was granted day release at HMP Sudbury, a Category D prison.
The recent arrest of Dean Woods in Germany has stirred mixed emotions among Lisa Brown’s family and supporters. While it rekindles hope in the search for Lisa and her overdue justice, it also raises questions about his potential return to HMP Sudbury.
In response to the latest developments, Lisa Brown’s mother expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating, “Thank you to each and everyone for the hundreds of messages of support through this nightmare. We are overwhelmed, and all your messages give us strength to carry on. It feels like 1 step forward and 2 back, and we are shocked, although not surprised that it’s come to this. All we want is to find Lisa and give her the justice she deserves and try and live our lives again (a big ask I know). Hopefully 1 day x.”
The search for Lisa Brown continues, and her family remains steadfast in their quest for answers and resolution.
