Man holds staff up with a knife in Stroud Green

Detectives have released an image of a man they wish to identify in connection with a spate of violent shoplifting offences at a supermarket in Stroud Green. All three incidents took place in Tesco on Stroud Green Road towards the end of last year. On the first occasion, the suspect stole six bottles of whiskey and produced and knife when challenged by security staff outside the shop. This took place at approximately 12:00hrs on 27 November 2017. On 3 December 2017, the suspect stole four bottles of champagne and threatened staff with a screwdriver when approached. The third offence took place on 9 December 2017. At approximately 18:15hrs, the suspect assaulted a man when he was confronted for attempting to leave the shop without paying for a bottle of cider. Detective Constable Russell Harvey, who is leading the investigation, said: “I’m keen to identify the man in the CCTV footage in relation to these offences. This man has used and threatened violence with weapons and I’m sure he’ll offend again if not stopped. This type of prolific and brazen behaviour cannot continue and I urge anyone with information on this man’s whereabouts to get in touch and help us prevent this from happening again.” Anyone with information which could assist this investigation is urged to contact police in Islington CID on 101 quoting CAD 3646 / 3 December 2017, tweet @MetCC or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
