Police arrest Terror suspect in East London

A man has been arrested on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts following a proactive operation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command (CTC). He was arrested just after 15:00hrs on Friday, 13 April by detectives from the CTC, who were supported by local officers, the Met’s Territorial Support Group and firearms officers. The 27-year-old man was arrested in east London on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of a terrorist act. He was detained under the Terrorism Act (TACT) and taken to a south London police station where he remains in police custody. As part of the same investigation, a 24-year-old woman was arrested at an address in north London on suspicion of having information about acts of terrorism. She was detained under PACE and taken to a south London police station where she remains in police custody. Officers are searching the address at which the woman was arrested, and are carrying out searches at three further addresses in east London. Enquiries are ongoing.
