Two Police Officers Have Been Assaulted After Responding To An Incident In Hackney

Police were called to an address in De Beauvoir Estate, N1 at about 2am this morning, Friday, 10 March, following reports of a male attempting to force entry into a property. The caller reported he may be suffering a mental health crisis.

Officers attended and were confronted by a male on the balcony of the property, who attacked both officers. One received serious injuries and both officers were taken to hospital for treatment. A knife was recovered from the scene.

The male fled the property and urgent enquiries are ongoing to trace the suspect.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, BCU commander for Central East Area, said: “This incident is once again, an example of the very real dangers our officers can be confronted with, at any time, as they ultimately work to protect and serve our communities.

“We will ensure that both officers involved in this incident, who showed great bravery and professionalism, will receive the continuing support they need and deserve. Meanwhile our detectives are leading the investigation to find the person responsible.”

Officers are encouraging anyone who has information about the incident to call police on 101 quoting reference 449/10Mar.
