A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
“We were called yesterday (9 December) at 11:55pm to reports of an incident at the junction between Longbridge Road and Wilmington Gardens, Barking.
“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an incident response officers, a medic in a fast response car, and members of our hazardous area response unit (HART).
“We treated one man at the scene.”
A spokesman for the Met Police said: At 11.29pm on Friday, 9 December officers on patrol in Park Avenue, Ilford attempted to stop a vehicle.
The driver failed to stop and made off. At 11.36pm, in nearby Lawson Close, he left his vehicle and fled on foot, pursued by officers.
The pursuit continued into Barking Park where the driver jumped into a lake before being detained by officers.
He was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of class B drugs and other related driving offences.
He was assessed by the London Ambulance Service due to having been in the water in very cold temperatures before being taken into custody.
