Hit and Run probe launched in Southsea

A dangerous Southsea junction blighted by speeding motorists was the scene of a road traffic collision in the early hours of this morning. The road traffic collision, at the junction of Francis Avenue and Delamere Road, saw a car written off as it collided with a flatbed scaffold lorry. The driver of the white SR Scaffolding lorry is reported to have fled the scene. Central Southsea Lib Dem councillor Lee Hunt – who has been running a Speedwatch campaign in the area – reports that, “It was a lucky escape for people as scaffold poles went flying through air in T-bone van vs. car traffic collision. Local Lib Dem councillors have been covering this stretch with our Speedwatch and calling for Portsmouth City Council action.” Fellow councillor Richard Adair said, “Local residents at the scene said they want speed reduction put in before someone gets killed.” Anyone with any information or who witnessed the accident is asked to call Portsmouth police on 101.
