Lorry driver jailed for causing two deaths by dangerous driving A Romanian lorry driver has been jailed for two years for causing the death of two men in a head-on collision in Dover. Traian Soare, 51, was driving a lorry downhill along the A2 Jubilee Way towards the docks just before midnight on Sunday 2 July 2017 when he veered into the opposite lane, colliding with a black Nissan Qashqai travelling towards him.

Following an investigation by Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, Soare was charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving. Distracted by satnav device At court Soare admitted he had been distracted by his sat nav device and wasn’t focusing on the road ahead. At Canterbury Crown Court on Friday 17 November 2017 he was sentenced to two years in prison. He was disqualified from driving for two years and seven months and must take an extended driving test before he will be allowed back on the roads. Senior investigating officer Sergeant Christopher Wade from SCIU said: ‘When driving a lorry – or any kind of vehicle – is your profession, there is a responsibility placed your shoulders to ensure your driving is of the highest standards. ‘In this case, by driving into the oncoming lane without any good reason, Soare had failed to adhere to a basic level of driving and it led to the most tragic of consequences.
