A trainee Detective Constable with the Metropolitan Police, Rosemary Edwards, is set to face a misconduct hearing following two extremely high breath test readings taken on July 22 of the previous year. The outcome of the hearing could potentially lead to her dismissal from the force.
On the day in question, Edwards provided two breath test readings that were significantly over the prescribed alcohol limit. The first reading showed 141 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath, while the second reading recorded 144 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath. These readings were found to be 11 times higher than the permissible alcohol limit of 13 micrograms for being fit for duty.
The breath test was conducted nearly six hours into Edwards’ shift, raising concerns about her ability to perform her duties in a responsible and professional manner.
The misconduct hearing, scheduled for July 11, will determine the appropriate disciplinary action to be taken against Edwards. The alleged conduct is considered to be gross misconduct, which could potentially result in her dismissal from the Metropolitan Police.
The incident raises serious questions about the trainee Detective Constable’s judgment and professionalism. The hearing will assess the severity of the misconduct and the appropriate consequences that should follow.
The Metropolitan Police holds its officers to high standards of conduct and expects them to uphold the principles of integrity and responsibility at all times. The outcome of the misconduct hearing will determine whether these expectations have been met and whether dismissal is warranted in this case.
