Thomas Rainey, a 61-year-old man, appeared before Belfast Crown Court on Wednesday, July 5th, where he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Katrina Rainey. Thomas Rainey opened the passenger door of the car, threw a flammable liquid over his wife, and set her ablaze as she sat in the vehicle, wearing her seatbelt, preparing to leave for work that morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene and found Katrina Rainey outside the burned vehicle, suffering from severe and extensive burns. Despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries after being transported to the hospital.
