Prison Rooftop Protest at HMP Isle of Wight

Two prisoners have gained access to the roof of HMP Albany on the Isle of Wight. Staff are currently working with the Police and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service. There is now threat to the public. A number of emergency vehicles including an aerial ladder platform has been seen entering the grounds of prison just after 3.40pm on Tuesday. It is understood that the two are protesting of conditions at the prison and treatment. Tornado specialist from the mainland are being drafted in. According to the Ministry of Justice, the specialist teams are negotiating with the two inmates of the Category B prison who have managed to climb onto the roof of the building. The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are standing by with an aerial appliance outside the gates of the infamous prison, which is believed to currently house up to 500 prisoners.
