M5 Horror: Teen Girl Dies in Late-Night Crash
M5 Shut Down After Fatal Collision
The M5 in Somerset is closed both ways after a tragic crash involving a 17-year-old girl and a car late Monday night. Avon and Somerset Police say the incident happened around 11pm between junctions 24 (Bridgwater) and 25 (Taunton).
The young pedestrian was killed at the scene. Her family has been informed. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.
Road Closure to Last Into Tuesday Morning
National Highways warned the motorway will stay closed into Tuesday to let police finish their investigation and carry out essential repairs. A diversion via the A38 is in place, but local traffic is snarled, especially near North Petherton and Bridgwater.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and check traffic updates before travelling.
Police Launch Probe and Appeal for Witnesses
The crash happened near Creech Heathfield, close to Taunton. Police have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to previous contact with the girl.
Authorities are asking anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage from the area to step forward and assist the investigation.
