Gunbattle Shuts Down Brixton Roads After Early Morning Shootout

Stockwell Road and Benedict Road remain closed both ways following a wild gunbattle just yards from the Brixton O2 Academy in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Armed Police and Paramedics Rush to Scene

Armed officers from the Metropolitan Police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service responded to reports of a shooting around 3am on Benedict Road near 1 Road. A man is believed to have been shot but is described as “walking wounded” as the investigation unfolds.

Crime Scene Shows Evidence of Intense Gunfire

  • Trident officers have sealed off a large crime scene.
  • Several 6mm bullets and casings litter the roadway, now covered by plastic bags.
  • A black Mercedes with visible damage is under forensic examination.
  • A white BMW, with windows blown out, sits abandoned in Stockwell Road – the driver reportedly shot at multiple times while fleeing the scene.

Manhunt Underway and Bus Routes Disrupted

Police have launched a hunt for the gunman, scouring CCTV from nearby housing blocks for clues. No arrests have been made so far.

Meanwhile, a number of bus routes are affected, including routes 2, 196, 322, 333, 345, and N2. Additional road closures are in place at the Rumsey Road junction, likely to remain for some time as officers carry out their inquiries into this very serious incident.
