Homes have been evacuated and roads closed in Tidworth after a collision sparked concerns over a gas main on Thursday night. Emergency services were called to Station Road shortly after 9pm following a single-vehicle collision. Police said no other vehicles were involved and nobody is believed to have been injured. However, concerns were raised over a gas main at the scene, prompting emergency services to establish a safety cordon and evacuate nearby properties. Residents living within a 100-metre radius of the collision site have been evacuated while work is carried out to make the area safe. Road closures have also been put in place on Station Road and Perham Down Road, with motorists being urged to avoid the area. A man has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and an offence under Section 4 of the Road Traffic Act. He has been taken into police custody for questioning.
A police spokesperson said:
“We are currently in attendance at a collision in Station Road, Tidworth.
“The incident happened shortly after 9pm – no other vehicles were involved and nobody is believed to have been injured. “However, due to concerns regarding a gas main at the collision site, we have road closures in place in Station Road and Perham Down Road and houses within a 100 metre radius of the site have been evacuated whilst the scene is made safe. “A man has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and Section 4 of the Road Traffic Act and taken to custody for questioning.” Emergency services are expected to remain at the scene while the gas infrastructure is assessed and the area is made safe. Residents and motorists are advised to avoid the affected roads while the closures remain in place.
