Manhunt Update: Ex-Soldier Suspected of Killing Three Daughters Likely Dead

After more than three weeks on the run, authorities now say there is no evidence that Travis Decker, 32, the former U.S. soldier wanted in the brutal murders of his three young daughters, is still alive.

Bodies Found, Decker Vanishes

Decker vanished after failing to return his daughters Paityn (9), Evelyn (8), and Olivia (5) to their mother following a scheduled visit earlier this month. Their bodies were found at a remote campsite near Leavenworth, Washington, next to Decker’s abandoned truck.

Since then, a multi-agency search of the rugged Cascade Mountains terrain has turned up no confirmed sightings of Decker. A group of hikers reported seeing a man matching his description shortly after the bodies were discovered, but this lead remains unverified as the suspect slipped away.

Authorities: “Decker May Be Dead or Gone”

“There is no certain evidence that Decker remains alive… Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia Decker deserve justice.” – Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office

Trained dogs are now scouring the region for human remains to aid the search.

“Because of the ruggedness and remoteness of that country, it’s clear that the longer he stays out there — whether he intends it or not — the greater the chance that he will die.” – Sheriff’s Inspector Chris Whitsett

Tough Terrain Hinders Search Efforts

The vast wilderness of the Cascade Mountains, including Chelan and Kittitas counties, is notoriously hard to search. The area is filled with abandoned mines, remote cabins, dense forests, and winding trails like the Pacific Crest Trail, stretching from Canada to Mexico.

Decker, an Army infantry veteran who served from 2013 to 2021, likely has survival skills to hide temporarily in the wilderness but may have underestimated the harsh conditions. Police are now collaborating with the U.S. Marshals Service to investigate if he has left the region.

Public Warned to Stay Alert

Authorities stress that Decker remains dangerous until located and urge the public to report any tips, no matter how minor.

If you have information, contact local law enforcement immediately. The hunt for Travis Decker continues — but the grim possibility remains: he may already be dead.
